Beacon is a public charter school open to students in 9th grade through twelfth grade from any community in Rhode Island. By Rhode Island Law and regulations from the Rhode Island Department of Education, students are admitted to Beacon by lottery. This lottery determines which applicants are enrolled the following school year. Generally, Beacon has up to 60 slots available in 9th grade and zero to 10 openings in the other grades. Applicants who are not selected for open seats are placed on our waiting list. Should an opening become available, those applicants will be contacted in order.
Prior to the lottery, it is highly recommended that you take a tour of the school and/or take advantage of our open house:
In addition to these open houses, we have a great opportunity for potential ninth graders to get a sense of the school, its courses, and faculty. On Tuesday, January 31st from 11:45 to 2:30, we are hosting a “Beacon Sneak Peak.” This will give applicants a chance to get a sample of all ninth grade courses and teachers, spend some time in each of our three arts disciplines, and have their questions answered before our admissions lottery. Parental permission is required to attend this event.
The lottery takes place on March 1, 2012. Therefore, all applications must be received by February 28th. All families will be notified of the results of the lottery by mail.
